Orange Italian 1975 Carrera 2.7

Italian delivered Carrera 2.7 MFI in its original color of Orange (E7) available in the United States.

Description from the seller:

This rare Carrera was delivered new in October of 1974 to JV Porsche Center in Verona, Italy.
9115600216 is one of the very few European Carrera 2.7 MFI coupes, with only 502 made in 1975.

Delivered with the iconic 1973 RS Carrera MFI 911/83 motor (6650279) it was painted in the spectacular and rare color, E7 Orange, and came with a black leatherette(14) interior with Shetland inserts. The cars sporting intent was reinforced by its no option configuration and a sunroof delete.

9115600216 is fresh from a concours level, bare tub rotisserie restoration that was performed in Italy with a no expense spared budget. Carrozzeria Serattini restored the 911; mechanical work was completed by Rennsport; and the interior was done by Ferraresi. It was completed to 100% factory original specifications. The numbers matching engine and transmission were restored along with every mechanical system on the car.

The only liberty taken during the restoration was the addition of a whale tail decklid, which would have been an option in the day. The original, plain decklid comes with the car and has been fully restored.

Offered for $395,000 (approx. 336,000 EUR)

Red RHD 1975 Targa @ Silverstone

Right-hand drive 1975 Carrera 2.7 MFI Targa in Guards Red and chrome trim will be offered at the Silverstone "Porsche Sale" in May 2017.

Description from auction company:

Complex 'Homologation' regulations required that in order to ensure cars built to compete in 'production car' racing on the world stage were not 'one-off' specials, they had to be produced in sufficient quantity and to an agreed form and, in the case of the Porsche 911 Carrera, that was the lightweight, racing 'RS' specification. Customers wishing to purchase a Carrera RS for the road had to specify the 'Touring' package that cost an extra DM 2,500 and offered the greater comfort of the 911S' trimmed and upholstered interior. When those production targets had been met, the lightweight RS was discontinued but the Carrera name remained proudly on Porsche's top-of-the-range model, which in its new, series-production 911SC form mounted the 210bhp engine in a full-weight, fully trimmed body shell.

In 1975, if you wanted to order a Porsche 911 Targa, then the 210bhp Carrera version was the absolute 'top of the range'. A rare right-hand drive Carrera Targa - one of only six supplied to the UK - this car was first registered in February 1975 and delivered with a fairly comprehensive complement of factory options. Finished in classic Guards Red with black leather seats (inlays perforated), it came with headlamp washers; 15" Fuchs alloy wheels; driver's side outside mirror; rear wiper; front and rear spoilers; tinted windows; intermittent wiper control; chrome trim parts; Bilstein shock absorbers; and 'Carrera' lettering in black.

Previously owned by Porsche enthusiasts and Porsche Club GB members, this car has been cherished throughout its life and retains many important period details, as listed in the factory delivery specification. It has covered some 125,000 miles from new, which is fully documented and comes with an extensive service history and MoT records dating back to the early 1980s. The accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirms matching engine and gearbox numbers. The engine has been rebuilt and is nicely detailed. It benefits from a new stainless steel exhaust system, mated to an original Bischoff final silencer that has been ceramic coated for cosmetic durability. The intake system is all original; the throttle bodies carry the date stamping, and the MFI fuel pump is of the correct date and type (019) as originally delivered. We are advised that the original Type 915 gearbox is very good mechanically. The wheels are believed original and carry the correct date stamp '74', and they have been professionally refurbished in the correct, 1974-specification 'petal' finish and shod with a set of period-looking Avon CR6ZZ tyres.

The interior is remarkably well-preserved with the original vinyl dashboard and trim panels where they have always been and the special optional leather seats remain in wonderful condition, complimented by the original blue/black leatherette of the rear seats. The combination of Guards Red with chrome window trims and stainless steel roll-hoop is a rare find for this model year as, by 1975, most cars were delivered with black trim, making this combination particularly unusual.

The Carrera comes complete with its 1975 driver's manual and service directory booklet in the original documents folder. A complete tool kit with jack and period-correct air compressor is included in the sale. Accompanying paperwork consists of sundry restoration invoices, MoT to June 2017, a V5C Registration Certificate, and the aforementioned Porsche documentation.

This is one of the best examples of the 2.7 Litre Carrera Targa we have ever seen. These cars are very collectable and extremely rare, particularly in such splendid condition, and this exceptional 911 Carrera is ready to be enjoyed by a new custodian.

Carrera 2.7 MFI @ Bonhams Paris

This 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI will be offered at Bonham's Les Grandes Marques du Monde au Grand Palais in Paris on February 9, 2017.

Description from the auction company:

One of the most iconic sporting motor cars of all time, the legendary Porsche 911 RS resulted from the Zuffenhausen factory's realisation that the excess weight of its top-of-the-range 2.4-litre 911S production model restricted its development potential for racing. It was therefor decided to produced and homologate a special lightweight limited edition variant for Group 4 GT racing, a class that required a minimum of 500 built. Thus it was necessary to incorporate, as standard, specific performance enhancements forbidden as post-production modifications. The result was the legendary lightweight Carrera RS (RennSport).

Boasting performance modifications including enlarged rear wheel arches to accommodate 7" wide wheel rims, and the first of the famous 'ducktail' spoilers, the RS was powered by the newly enlarged 2.7-litre engine that featured Bosch mechanical fuel injection (MFI) and produced 210bhp. These alterations resulted in the RS having a top speed of around 240km/h while ensuring that it remained stable and controllable right up to the limit.

The resulting demand for this fabulous car proved so great that the production run was progressively extended, eventually ending up at 1,590 units and allowing homologation in Group 3 for standard GT production cars. The majority of cars produced were to 'Lightweight' (competition) specification, the remainder being delivered as the Carrera RS Touring, complete with 911S-type interior trim and fittings (order number '472') which cost an extra DM 2,500. For 1974, the Carrera retained the 210bhp MFI engine but was only available with full equipment; the ducktail spoiler was an option, though not available in Germany.

Finished in Grand Prix White, this 1974-model 911 Carrera has belonged to the current owner since July 1985. According to the accompanying confirmation by Porsche Italia, the car was sold new in Italy in the province of Verona. Porsche Italia also confirms that it has matching chassis and engine numbers, and that the original exterior colour was Grand Prix White. The only notable deviation from the factory specification is the interior, which was originally trimmed throughout in black vinyl but has been changed to dark blue cloth for the front seats.

Importantly, the car was subjected to a comprehensive service in October 2015 by Orlando Redolfi of the official Centro Assistenza Porsche Pedrengo near Bergamo, Italy. The work included servicing the brake and clutch system; overhauling the fuel injection pump and injectors; a general service with new fluids; and new tyres front and rear. As a result, the car is described by the vendor as in generally good condition, and as such is certainly an attractive proposal for any Porsche enthusiast. Totalling almost €9,000, invoices relating to the 2015 service are on file, and the car also comes with an original owner's manual, Italian registration documents, and the aforementioned declaration from Porsche Italia.

Auction company estimate €120,000–160,000 ($130,000–170,000 USD).

Red RHD Carrera 2.7 Targa

Description from the seller:

In 1975, if you wanted to order a Porsche 911 Targa, then the 210bhp Mechanical Injected Carrera version, sat at the pinnacle of the model range. Launched right in the middle of the oil crisis, the Carrera was a very expensive car. Just two years prior, a RHD 1973 model 911RS Lightweight (M471) ordered through Porsche Cars GB would have cost £5826. Just two years later, when new, this Carrera Targa would have cost the owner in the region of £10,397 plus options !
A RHD MFI Carrera, is a rare machine, especially to find in good condition, having endured the British weather for the past 40 years. We think this Targa version, with just 6 UK RHD H-Series examples ever supplied, is probably right up there as one of THE BEST RHD EXAMPLES IN THE WORLD. Having been cherished throughout its life, previously owned by enthusiasts and Porsche Club GB members, that’s a testament to this car that’s covered just 125.000 miles from new, fully documented with extensive service history and MOT records (back to early 1980’s). This particular example is one that ooses patina, history and sublime detail. Only a car that has been cherished throughout its life carries so many important period details, correctly detailed as denoted by its factory delivery specification. Confirmed by the Porsche CoA as being numbers matching (engine and gearbox), the engine has been rebuilt and detailed to perfection. It benefits from a new stainless steel exhaust system, mated to an original Bischoff final silencer that has been ceramic coated for cosmetic durability. The intake system is all original, the throttle bodies carry the date stamping and the MFI fuel pump is the correct date and type (019) as originally delivered.

The original numbers matching 915 gearbox is very good mechanically. The wheels are considered original and the correct ‘period’ date stamped 74. They have been refinished to the ’74 spec’ petalled finish to the highest standard, wrapped in a set of period looking Avon CR6ZZ tyres. The interior is in remarkable original condition, the original vinyl dash and trim panels remain, this car was optioned with Leather seats, the special leather used in period remains in remarkable condition and contrasts the original period Blue/Black leatherette of the rear seats. The combination of Guards Red, with the Chrome window trims and stainless steel roll-hoop is a rare find for this model year. Most cars delivered were optioned with Black trim, as its possible that in 1975, the Chrome was considered ‘dated’, but we think it looks just right, and not a combination that we have seen before for this model year. The vehicle includes the ’75 drivers manual, in its original document folder with service directory book. A complete toolkit with jack and correct period air compressor, complete the detail items included in the sale.

  • Registered : February 1975
  • Chassis Number : 9115610125
  • Engine number : 6650445
  • Gearbox Number : 7850424
  • Factory Options :
  • Guards Red G8V9
  • Black Leather seats, inlays perforated
  • M288 Headlamp washers
  • M401 15” 7J and 8J Fuchs alloys

  • M568 Tinted windows
  • M652 Intermittent wiper control

1974 Silver Carrera

Description from the seller:

Immediately after the legendary 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS finished production a series of Carreras were built for the rest-of-world markets that were equivalent to the 1973 RS Touring (M472) models. This rare and desirable Porsche was the G-series Carrera 2.7 MFI which was fitted with the 911/83 RS-spec mechanically fuel injected (MFI) engine that produced 210 bhp. The major difference between these Carreras and the Touring Carrera RS was that the MFI variation was built with the "G-series" impact bumper body and interior instead of the earlier long hood form. The weight of the Carrera 2.7 MFI was also 1075 kg, identical to that of the preceding Carrera RS Touring. All 1974 Carrera MFI cars initially either came with a ducktail or tail delete, while 1975 and later Carrera MFI either came with the whale tail or tail delete. (Late 1974 models built after April of 1974 were also sometimes fitted with the whale tail. All models sold new in Germany after 1974 were fitted with the whale tail as the duck tail no longer met German Road-Rule regulations.

What makes the early 911s, Carrera RS, and the 2.7-liter "euro" Carrera so interesting and thrilling to drive is the Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection (MFI) setup. The glorious sound and instantaneous throttle response has a remarkable feel compared to the computerized injection systems of the 70s and 80s. In the December 1974 issue of Motor magazine the Carrera 2.7 MFI was extensively tested and they measured a 0-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds.

Porsche built similar number of coupes to the 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS with roughly 1,011 in 1974; 509 in 1975; and 113 of the German-only Sondermodell in 1976. A total production of 1,633 as compared to 1,590 1973 RS built. Additionally Porsche built 631 Targa versions of the Carrera 2.7 MFI between 1974 and 1976, including 20 in 1976 for the Belgium police.

These cars were never imported by Porsche into North America. The strict US emissions laws required smog equipment that drastically impacted the performance of the 2.7-liter motor. The US version of the Carrera in 1974-1975 used the significantly less powerful CIS (K-Jetronic) based injection engines to meet the California and US emission standards.

The 1976 Carrera 2.7 MFI was the last street car Porsche ever produced with mechanical fuel injection. In fact there were only three MFI based cars produced by Porsche after 1976, all race cars. First were the ten turbocharged Porsche 934 ½ built for Group 4 and the 1977 IMSA Championship, alongside the various incarnations of the turbocharged Porsche 935 built for Group 5 and, later, the twenty 3.0-liter 911 SC/RS (954) rally cars built in 1984 to compete in Group B.

1974 Porsche Carrera 2.7 MFI, Chassis No. 911.460.0945:

Year 1974
Type Carrera 2.7 MFI Chassis No. 911.460.0945

Mileage 97.649 Kilometers / 60,675 Miles (Original From New)

This particular Carrera 2.7 MFI was sequentially the 934th of just 1011 examples built. It is an extremely late production example, the 91st to the last being built and it was completed under a special wish / special order in May of 1974. The original order was placed by Mitsuwa Motors, the official Porsche Distributor and main Service Center for Porsche in Japan. Delivery took place in June of 1974 and the car was road-registered later that month on Japanese plates "330 911." The original order requested an ROW (Rest of World Market, European Version with left-hand-drive steering.) The order further specified the exterior color of Silver-Metallic, Negative Carrera Graphics and the interior to be in all black including headliner with cloth insert Sports Seats, both left and right. Because it was built so late in the production run, this Carrera 2.7 MFI was delivered new with the whale tail rather than the previous year's less efficient duck tail.

A very long list of standard options was ordered and specifically requested that no sunroof be fitted. The recorded options were as follows:

  • Japanese Market Equipment and 300kph Speedometer)
  • Power Windows
  • Black Headliner
  • Power Side-View Mirror
  • Headlight washers
  • Impact Absorbing Bumpers (Front and Rear)
  • Airconditioning
  • Tinted Glass (All Windows)
  • Intermittent Wipers with Separate Control
  • Windscreen Washing Equipent
  • Koni Shock Absorbers instead of Boge
  • Upgraded Brakes and Calipers
  • Sport Seats with Cloth Inserts (Left and Right)
  • White Iodine Type Fog Lights Under Front Bumper
  • Manual Antenna and Noise Suppression Equipment
  • Blaupunkt Essen Multi-Band Radio and Dual Speakers
  • Dunlop Tires
With seventeen individual options, this is by far one of the most lavishly equipped examples completed and sold new. It remained carefully preserved, conserved and cared for under single individual ownership for more than 40 years until being purchased by our company. This Carrera 2.7 MFI was purchased in a remarkably original and un-molested state, having received great care by her one and only owner. A single repaint was done many years ago and starting to show age as did the interior. The car was completely rust and accident free and matching numbers front to back, top to bottom. Upon arrival, this Porsche was carefully inspected and then completely disassembled and given a multi-year, no expense spared, complete and total restoration without consideration for time or money.

This vehicle has just completed this fully documented restoration and has covered just a few kilometers to assist in sorting and setting it up for any manner of enthusiastic show or road use. It is sold complete with the original manual and warranty card from Porsche Mitsuwa Motors and the original tool kit. All date coded, stamped and marked parts are original as delivered new with the vehicle.

Offered at $295,000 USD (approx. €279,000)

RHD Ice Green Carrera @ Silverstone

To be auctioned at Silverstone on November 12/13, 2016.

Description from the auction company:

Chassis Number: 9115600513
Engine Number: 6650704

The Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI Coupé was introduced in 1974 on the new G-Series chassis that was built to appease ever stricter US regulations for crash worthiness. The floor pans were strengthened, lighting was improved and larger bumpers incorporated. With an impressive 210 bhp, 2,687 cc Type 911/83 air-cooled, horizontally opposed, six-cylinder engine with Bosch mechanical fuel injection, 0-60 was achieved in just over 5 seconds and gearing was good for 150mph through a 5-speed manual transmission. The suspension was fully independent with torsion bars, McPherson struts and anti-roll bars. The total weight was just over 1,075 kilograms, which made the Euro-spec 2.7 MFI a very fast car in its day. In fact, it was the fastest production 911 until the late 1980s. In total, 1,647 Euro-spec MFI Carrera coupes were built during this three-year run, along with 631 Targas, with total production figures not vastly outnumbering that of the original 1973 Carrera RS.

There are currently 48 right-hand drive cars listed with the Carrera 2.7 MFI Registry. However, this sunroof-equipped model is believed to be 1 of just 21 Coupé examples produced for the UK market. A matching numbers Carrera MFI Coupé, it was sold new to its first, and only previous, owner on 13th November 1975 by Swinford Motors of Stourbridge. It has covered a total mileage of 55,500 miles from new and is presented in stunning order following a ground-up restoration carried out by respected marque specialists ‘RS 911' in Wales.

Silverstone Auctions had the pleasure of selling chassis number 9115600513 for its first owner in May 2015 and are delighted to re-offer this unique Porsche, having undergone quite the transformation. When we first inspected the vehicle, the body shell had never been welded, the car had never been restored or seen paint and the beautifully thin Ice Green special order finish had faded almost down to bare metal. The interior was complete and untouched from new. Journalists, restorers and enthusiasts all agreed that it was one of the most original examples ever seen on the open market.

Work began in earnest in June 2015 following the auction. The car was stripped of all components and the engine and gearbox sent to renowned Porsche engine builders 'Tech 9 Motorsport' in Liverpool. ‘RS 911' set about the bodywork and every effort was made to preserve as much of the original car as possible. Other than two new front wings and basic perishable items, the rest of the car was restored using existing components that were repaired or renovated. The sills and floor pans have never been touched.

The fully rebuilt engine and gearbox were reunited with the car at Tech 9 and it was fully balanced and tuned. The suspension, brakes, differential, and electrics were all rebuilt by ‘RS 911' and the original interior simply cleaned up, re-stitched and restored. The only non-original item in the cabin today is the headlining, which was too damaged to repair. The results of this restoration must be seen to be fully appreciated. The paintwork retains a superb shine and the shut lines are straight and true. The engine sounds superb and this 911 can now be returned to the road to relive its former glory. ‘RS 911' have done a fantastic job and it is the intention of the owner to reunite the car with its first owner prior to the sale and take him for a drive.

The history file for this Porsche is a joy to behold. From 1975 until 2008 the car was maintained exclusively by respected Porsche specialist Chris Best from 'Two-Plus-Two'. There are 6 service stamps in the original service book and many invoices for work carried out over the years. Complete with original tools, radio, windscreen transfers, wallet, service manuals and ownership paraphernalia, there are even letters between the current owner and the supplying dealer in 1975. A large number of bills and photographs document the complete restoration process.

Auction company estimates £240,000 – £280,000 (approx. $301,000 – $351,000 USD).
